Iniet figure
Object Type: Sculpture
Locality: East New Britain Papua New Guinea
Artist: Unknown
Circa: 1930’s
Height as photographed: 35cm
Description: This Iniet sculpture was collected by Frank Cummer while he was a Labour inspector between 1967 and 1973. The figure is older than this and has a cavity in the chest where the stone has dissolved.  It is not stone carved but the Tolai have had access to steel since the 19th C. I know there are fake examples of these on the market and this has caused the value of genuine examples like this one to drop.
